TULIPS

the throb and beat of spring
          pulsing on the breeze
                   surging underfoot

Tulips in Snow

bloodred tulips thrusting boldly through snow
root and bulb cradled in rich sienna earth –
newly sprung
crimson messengers to a world too long grey and dead

heartbeat
lifeblood from the deep
bursting winter’s iron bands

resurrection that cannot be gainsaid
whelming death at last

foretelling

“If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy,
the most probably explanation is that I was made for another world.”
